On July 1st 2017, the Town of Nantucket officially launched its local solar rebate program with the intent to stimulate the adoption of solar electricity systems on year round residential properties. Increased renewable energy generation will help to “green” the local electric supply and reduce summer peak load and costly capacity charges, resulting in lower long term electric supply and distribution costs for ratepayers.
Rebates of up to $2,500 will be provided to cover a portion of the costs of successfully-installed solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. This will make ownership more affordable for local resident, specifically those participating in Nantucket PowerChoice—a municipal electric aggregation program launched earlier in 2017.
The Solar Rebate Program will be funded through an extra 1/10th cent per kilowatt hour (kWh) included in the Nantucket PowerChoice supply rate. The new rate remains less than National Grid’s current basic service rate of 9.432/kW and equates to an 80 cent-per-month increase for an average resident using 800kWh.
