10 Sun-Kissed Activities to Do on Nantucket Island in the Fall

We’re ready to say something controversial: Nantucket in the fall rivals Nantucket in the

summer.

I know, can you even believe what you just read?! But here’s the thing.

ACK Smart is a team of local Nantucketers and as our fearless leader Zach quoted to us a few weeks ago, “Welcome to Locals’ Summer,” as fall is affectionately referred to.

Fall on island is magical. The sun takes a gentle bow, casting a golden hue over the island, and the leaves almost seem to applaud, as they emerge in a riot of colors.

So if you're planning a trip to this sun-drenched paradise during the autumn months, you're in for a treat. Here's a list of the top 10 activities to do, but always keeping the sun in mind, as we are so inclined to do.

Solar-Powered Leaf Peeping: Okay, not really. But the sun does play a role in that gorgeous fall foliage. Take a stroll or bike ride around the island and bask in the sunlit colors of autumn.

Sunset Sailing: Experience the magic of a Nantucket sunset from the water. As the sun dips

below the horizon, the sky becomes a canvas of oranges, pinks, and purples. It's like Mother Nature's own solar-powered light show!

Pumpkin Everything: Visit the local Bartlett’s Farm and get your hands on sun-ripened

pumpkins. Pumpkin pies, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin...sunglasses? Okay, maybe not the last

one...

Beach Picnics: The crowds may be gone, but the sun is still out and about! Pack a picnic and head to the beach. Don't forget your solar-powered radio to jam out to some tunes.

Solar Astronomy: The clear fall nights are perfect for stargazing. And while you're at it, give a little wave to the sun's distant cousins twinkling in the night sky.

Whale Watching: Hop on a boat and watch the majestic whales play in the sunlit waters.

Visit the Oldest House: Built in 1686, the Jethro Coffin House has seen many sunrises and

sunsets. Take a tour and soak in the history, all under the watchful gaze of the sun.

Scallop and Cranberry Harvesting: Did you know that cranberries are harvested by flooding the fields with water? Visit a cranberry bog and watch the sun shimmer off the water as the berries float to the surface. Dive head first into the sun-kissed waters of the harbor for the famous Nantucket Bay Scallop. Sautéed with a touch of butter and bacon, they’re sure to become your new favorite delicacy.

Simply Soak in the Sun: Sometimes, the best activity is no activity at all. Find a cozy spot,

maybe with a view of the lighthouse, and let the gentle autumn sun warm your soul.

So there you have it! An autumn itinerary perfect of any summer sun lover. Whether you're

basking in the fall rays or dancing under a vibrant sunset, there's no shortage of fun and sun-kissed activities to enjoy.

See you on the island!
